It produces showy terminal racemes of bell-like white flowers in spring. It is semi-evergreen but in the fall it produces brilliant golden or orange leaves, which to me has one of the great appeals of this selection. It grows best in sandy well-drained soil with uniform moisture in full sun to part shade. At a planting of this species at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, it is planted in a bog environment with pitcher plants and other wetland species. If one has a problem wet area, one might try a Zenobia and\/or Eubotrys, both Ericaceous species. It is native to the coastal Carolinas.
