Due to recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Ranch Elderberry. This is a new superior fruiting form of our native American elderberry, which is highly valued for its medicinal and nutritional values, and is reported to be anti-viral as well as anti-bacterial. It is also an excellent source of vitamin C. This selection is a heavy fruiting form which must be planted with the cultivar 'Wyldewood' for cross-pollination. It will produce a flower head of up to 12 inches across. They do best with uniform moisture and will also tolerate some shade and still produce a heavy crop of fruit. It is quite vigorous but will not get quite as large as its partner 'Wyldewood', reaching only 5-6 ft. high with an equal spread. AS with all Elderberries, it is not eaten as fresh fruit but when properly prepared it is  highly prized for its juice, jellies, syrup and wine.
