Gold Brocade Tongue Fern. Similar to the species except that the leaves have an irregular yellow striping. Here again, it is an excellent pot plant where its stolons will run over the sides of its container. Needs shade with good drainage and uniform moisture for good performance in the landscape. In its native habitat, this species grows over stones where its roots rarely penetrate the soil to any depth. If one is in a cooler climate where your plant can be put in more sun, then the deep yellow color will show off to greater advantage. But in deep shade, where it is happier here, the color will not be as bright. The first photo was taken in Japan and shows the color where the plant is allowed to grow in almost full sun. The other photos are here in zone 8 under high pine shade.
