Pringle's Dwarf Japanese Yew. This compact selection of Podocarpus was made by Tom Dodd, Jr. of Tom Dodd Nursery fame in Semmes, AL. It's best trait is that it is quite compact reaching 3-5' with a slightly greater spread. But it can easily be kept smaller with light pruning. Another great quality of this plant is that it is deer resistant and salt tolerant. This is a male selection, hence one will have small male catkins forming each spring which are quickly shed. This is also probably the best selection of Podocarpus for bonsai because of its small stature. Once established, Podocarpus are practically indestructible. It will tolerate full sun to shade, and as with other selections of this species, this plant is salt tolerant.
