Persian Lace Parrotia. Its very rare to find a plant as unusual as Parrotia and then on top of that to find a variegated form of it. This selection has pewter-green leaves with an irregular green border. The leaves can be quite variable with irregular variegation and variable margins. The new growth is quite handsome as well with pink to red new leaves. This small tree will reach heights of 20' plus and with age it will develop handsome exfoliating bark. Its fall color is legend with this species, but here in the nursery we push our plants with fertilizer and this will deter good fall hues. It is easily grown and since its native habitat is Iran and Afghanistan, it will tolerate quite a bit of drought. It flowers in late winter here with small red witchhazel-like flowers along its stems before the leaves emerge.
