Obsession Nandina. This new compact Nandina is noted for its bright red new growth which turns even more brilliant after the first cold spell in the fall. The cultivar name ‘SEIKA’ means “sacred fire” in Japanese and was given as the name because of the color of the new growth. For the best bright red color, plant in full sun. As with all Nandinas, give it good drainage, and once established it will be one of the most drought tolerant plants in your landscape. Ultimate mature size will be 2-2.5' high with an equal spread. The only maintenance required will be periodic pruning to remove about a third of its oldest "canes." This will maintain a more tidy, compact plant. It is also a great subject as the feature specimen in a mixed container.
