Deep Purple Liriope. I found this selection of the ubiquitous "Bordergrass" in a rare plant catalog in Japan. I have been dividing it for a number of years and finally have enough to share. The mid-summer spikes of flowers are a shade or two darker purple than any other cultivar that I have seen, even 'Majestic.' It is quite showy in bloom, with more flowers along its scape than the species. Photo 1 shows left to right, 'Majestic,' 'Deep Purple' and 'Samona.'
