Blue Lagoon Shore Juniper. This is a newer introduction from the U. S. National Arboretum which has a similar color to 'Blue Pacific' but has a lower profile. It was introduced in 1992 from a collection made by Dr. John L. Creech, the director. This plant was found in 1976 at the Aritaki Arboretum, Saitama-Ken, Japan where it was being evaluated. Following nine years of evaluation, it was introduced. As with the species, it is very drought tolerant and also salt tolerant, making it ideal for coastal plantings, but its most endearing qualities is its 6" profile and blue-green color, which is more intense during colder months. This species of Shore Junipers will also tolerate some shade as well as full sun. I have seen it growing in some gardens which I thought were far to shady to grow any species, and it was thriving.
