Golden Nepal Holly. This Asian species has a number of cultivars with 'Ogon' being the best known. It is native to China, Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Females of this species produce large red berries, but this cultivar is a male. Hopefully later this year we will have an 'Ogon' female to release. This is one of the more cold hardy species of hollies. For the best "golden" color, one should site their plant in full sun to at least a half day of sun. It has the advantage among hollies not to have spiny leaves, so if one wishes to site their plant along a pathway, there won't be any complaints. The first picture is complements of Michael Chelednik taken at the Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, NC.
