White Ginger. We have sold this selection as 'Luna Moth' for decades, but after reviewing the Pacific Bulb Society on this cultivar, I think what we have been offering is just the species H. coronarium. 'Luna Moth' is actually a hybrid between H. coronarium and H. hasseltii. Even so, this is still probably the most fragrant of the gingers with the most aromatic "gardenia-like" scent that one can imagine, and our offering is somewhat showier and taller than 'Luna Moth' with broader petals. Hedychiums make a dramatic foliage statement before the flowers emerge in late summer and fall. We have a customer at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, TN, which has had great success there growing this selection in the landscape. I was surprised! They love heat.
