Variegated Persian or Colchis Ivy. This selection is one of the few variegated forms of the species Hedera colchica, contrasting with English Ivy, Hedera helix, which has thousands of variegated variants. What makes this species different in the Deep South is that it will grow in full sun and thrive. I have seen it growing at the main office complex of the South Carolina Department of Corrections in Columbia. And even on this non-irrigated site in full sun, next to a white wall this plant was thriving with no burnt leaves. It grows up any textured surface, such as a brick or wooden wall or fence with aerial roots which attach themselves to the surface. The leaves make some of the largest of the genus Hedera.
