Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Yaezaki or Jitsuko's Star Ligularia. The Japanese have shows in which they exhibit this perennial in the "koten engei" fashion where they are displayed very formally in their exquisite highly decorated porcelain pots. Many cultivars sell in the hundreds of dollars. I named this cultivar 'Jitsuko's Star' for the wife of Ozzie Johnson who left this life all too soon. She was the consummate lady and a dear person. When I first acquired this cultivar in Japan, the nurseryman could not give me a name. But since then we have found the name to be 'Yaezaki'.  It resembles the green-leaf form of this plant but has fully double flowers. The floral display is incredible. Grow it in the shade garden with adequate moisture, and as with all of the others in this genus, it makes a wonderful pot plant as well.
