Reuben Pineapple Lily. This cultivar came to us from plant breeder Eddie Welch in New Zealand who was breeding Eucomis to develop a cut flower that could be used in the florist trade. The flower stalk is somewhat more compact than 'Sparkling Burgundy' and will make an 18" spike in mid summer with purple blooms which open a soft pink. As with most Eucomis, they flower best when given more sun. This is a stunning accent when the rest of the garden in going to sleep in the heat of summer here in the Deep South.
