Hybrid Coral Bean. A hybrid between our native E. herbacea and E. crista-galli from Argentina, resulting in one of the more spectacular plants that one could imagine for a perennial border. It has 20" long fire-engine-red flower spikes throughout the summer and well into fall. It is also one of the best hummingbird attracters. Give good drainage and mulch for winter in its northern range. It is late to come out in spring, but when it does it grows like a weed. Give it plenty of room to spread, as here in zone 8 it can grow to be 6 - 8 feet tall and 8-10 feet wide.
