Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Double Flowering Fuzzy Deutzia. This species is one of the older dependable deciduous flowering shrubs in existence. It is so easy to grow that I think it gets overlooked. This selection, 'Flore-plena', has incredible double flowers which are produced in 4-7 inch panicles from the axils of the leaves of last years growth. It is beyond elegant in appearance, and It can reach 6-8 ft. in height with a greater spread. It does well in full sun to part shade. It is best used in a shrub border because by late summer the foliage is not anything to write home about. But once established, it thrives on neglect. Maybe every other year or so one should remove some of its oldest canes down a few inches from the ground. Here in zone 8 it flowers in mid to late April to early May with terminal and axillary panicles of double white flowers.
