Gold-leaf Winterhazel. This has become one of my favorite genera of ornamental plants with this selection being one of the most outstanding with its bright golden yellow flowers in the spring hanging from 2-3" racemes. These are followed with bright golden-yellow leaves which will bole you over in the shade garden. When I first saw this selection in a garden in Japan, I never would have thought that it would perform this well for us in the Deep South. But was I surprised! As the season progresses, the gold leaves will take on a chartreuse shade. There is no shade garden that should be without this plant.
