Hongkong Evergreen Dogwood. This selection was shared with me by Scott McMahan of the Atlanta Botanical Garden. It is from a specimen which he collected in southern China. It has heavily textured evergreen leaves which are much larger than Cornus elliptica and also have a matte-like surface. It has survived 5°F in Gainesville, GA, during the polar vortex of December, 2022. These leaves are the largest and most heavily texture of any evergreen dogwood that I have seen. The flowers are very much "elliptica-like" but its bracts are more rounded as one can see in the photograph. I would suggest filtered sun here in the Deep South. We will have a very limited number right now but will have more next summer. Picture courtesy of Scott McMahan.
