Blue China Fir. This selection has a distinctive silvery-blue caste, especially on the new growth in spring. The winter color is not as blue, but still effective. It is truly outstanding! For the first couple of years, this plant will take on a bush form, and then, suddenly, it will send up a central leader and develop its typical pyramidal form. This is unlike 'Chason's Gift' which will almost immediately develop a central leader. But 'Glauca' is quite an aristocrat among trees, when one has the space. It is thought by some to be more cold hardy than the species. This is a clone that was shared with me by Rick Crown of Madison, GA, which seems to have an exceptional blue color.
