Merlot Majik™ Mimosa. This can be one of the most distinct plants in your landscape with its deep non-fading burgundy foliage which holds well into the fall. I developed this new burgundy-leaved Mimosa which holds it color far better than one presently on the market, 'Summer Chocolate.' In mid to late summer when 'Summer Chocolate' is fading to a muddy green, 'Merlot Majik' holds its vibrant burgundy color well into the fall. The dark burgundy foliage creates an incredible foil for its deep pink flowers in early summer. It has the same growth habit of the species which has a spreading crown of 20-30 feet and is quite vigorous, putting on 4-5 feet of growth in a season. Its best color will be in full sun. Grow in a well drained soil with adequate moisture. The plants are so large that they will probably have to be pruned back slightly to get them into our largest shipping container which is 4' high. The last picture shows a comparison of 'Summer Chocolate' and 'Merlot Majik'® in mid August, with 'Merlot Majik'® being on the right.
