Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Hopley Abelia. This sport from the common Abelia grandiflora was found at Hopley's Plants in Hertfordshire, England. It has pale pink flowers but also some of the brightest gold variegation in the genus. Since it is an A. grandiflora sport, it can get somewhat larger than other variegated cultivars, but it can also be kept at only 3' with only a couple of light prunings a year. It does well in full sun to part shade with good drainage. As with other Abelias, we have noticed no disease or deer problems at all.
