Due to recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Lace-bark Elm. One of the nicest of Elms, this species has beautiful dark shiny green leaves which rarely discolor from mildew. And my experience has been that it is resistant to Elm Leaf Beetles. It develops into  a medium size tree with a round crown and arching branches. It has been used extensively in downtown Augusta, GA as a street tree. Six feet by six feet sections were cut out of the sidewalk to plant this selection and they have performed remarkably well, making what was an unlivable situation most tolerable. The fall color is a not so spectacularly yellow. With its patchy exfoliating bark, this is truly one of the great landscape trees for America. Please do not confuse this species with the much more inferior U. pumila, Siberian Elm, which starts to fall apart before it gets anywhere near maturity and is also susceptible to the Elm Leaf Beetle.
