Beebee Tree. The southeastern Asia native makes a rounded crowned tree of 25-30' with an equal spread. It has pinnately compound opposite leaves with small white fragrant flowers being produced in terminal corymbs to 6" across in mid summer, later further north and are highly prized by bees which find few other flowers available at this time. The flowers are quickly followed by small reddish-purple fruit which later open revealing two black berries which birds relish. It is easily grown and does best in full sun with moderate fertility and moisture. The bark has a fascinating fine texture which from a distance appears to be smooth.
