Afghan or Himalayan Cherry. This incredible large shrub to small tree can reach a height of 10' with a spread of slightly less. It is not too fussy about soil or light as long as it gets good drainage. It will grow in full sun to part shade and gives an awesome display with medium pink flowers encircling every stem in April here in zone 8. It also produces a red to purple small edible fruit in the early summer. This species closely resembles Prunus japonica and there have been cultivars developed from the crosses of the two species to develop home fruiting plants.
