Winged Blood-thorn Rose. What does one hate mostly about a Rose? The thorns, right? Well this Rose is an exceptional species of Rose which is planted for its amazing ornamental spines along its stems which are a translucent red in the spring. The foliage is a fine ferny leaf, and the flowers are nothing to write home about with four cream-white petals. When siting this plant, it is best planted where at some time of day one can observe the stems with the sun shining through them. As with all roses, give it as much sun as possible in a well drained soil. This photo is courtesy of Scott Forest McMahan of the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
