Gold Mine Inkberry Holly.  This distinct cultivar of our NATIVE Inkberry Holly was found as a sport on the cultivar Ilex glabra 'Shamrock' by Maryland's Gabe Ceserini. It has distinctive gold margins on its leaves with occasional all gold leaves. This selection was pointed out to me by Mark Weathington of the J. C. Raulston Arboretum, Raleigh, NC. We have had some problems with certain cultivars of Inkberries not thriving in "container culture," but this one does exquisitely well. It is dense and compact in growth much more so than the species. It performs well in full sun to part shade, but the more sun, the brighter the gold color. It lends itself to shearing as a small hedge or allowing it to grow naturally in the landscape. And it has a particularly broad range of adaptability from zones 5-9.
