Warren's Red Deciduous Holly. Another of our great deciduous Holly selections, 'Warren's Red' was originated as a branch sport by Otis Warren and Son Nursery, Oklahoma City, OK. Dirr reports: "The original plant is 25 by 20' and has good size fruit which occur singly or 2 to 6 per spur." Fruit production is heavy and the berries persist longer than the species. Part to full sun and not particular as to soil. This is another one of our great native selections. Being a female, it needs a male pollinator, but it doesn't need the same species. Even a species as different as our native American Holly, Ilex opaca, will serve as a pollinator. The photo is compliments of Karl Gercens.
