Finch's Gold Deciduous Holly. Of course the cultivar name is derived from the color of the fruit. This female clone was a seedling selection from Hale County, AL by Bill Finch in the 1980"s. This native species is reputed to be pollinated by Ilex opaca, hence one doesn't have to be as concerned for a male pollinator as one does with Ilex verticillata. I am not sure of its ultimate mature size, but it will probably reach large shrub to small tree proportions as does the species in the wild. Fall color is a not an outstanding yellow. It is not particular as to soil or sun, but part to full sun would give the best fruit set.
