Angyo Shikizaki Hydrangea. This is an old Hydrangea named for the "Angyo" district just outside of Tokyo which is the principal nursery district of Japan. "Shikizaki" refers to its remontant (a fancy word for repeat blooming) flowering characteristics. The inflorescence is large, sturdy and packed with flowers. I have seen it in full flower as late as November. The flower can be blue or pink depending on the amount of aluminum in the soil, not the pH as many teach. Aluminum induces "blueness;" whereas, a lack of it will induce "pinkness." Of course with a more acidic pH, aluminum is more available. If pruning is needed, do it immediately after flowering as the plant will have time to put on new growth that will set flower buds for the following spring. So that flowering is not affected,  try to prune at or before early August. This is a large grower to 5-6' with a slightly greater spread. For best growth in the Deep South, plant in filtered sun or morning sun and afternoon shade, with uniform moisture.
