This is one of the Deep South's prized native plants which makes a medium sized tree of 20' high with an equal spread. It's greatest claim to fame is its 1.5" pure white hanging bell-like flowers which emerge before the leaves in late March to early April here in zone 8. It is by far the showiest of the Halesias when in flower. It is so delicate in character when viewed from underneath and looking up into its blooms. It grows well in sun to part shade with uniform moisture, and it is quite vigorous. With good fertility and proper moisture, I have seen 30" of growth in a season when young. It is most ideal for a woodland setting. They are grown easily from seed, but bear in mind that the seed have a double dormancy, taking two winters of dormancy to germinate. Don't disturb the seedlings until they are two years old and then plant them in their permanent setting while they are dormant.
