Meadow Snow Eurya. This is one of the earliest variegated Euryas which I collected in Japan and it exhibits a tantalizing array of white splashed leaves. Frankly there is more white than green in the leaves. When seen by customers, I have to literally pull them away as we try to get our numbers up. Everything else is according to the species. Upon finally seeing an actual cultivar name on this Eurya in Japan, where the Japanese rarely give a name, I asked Mike Ishii what was the meaning of the name in English. He must have thought for 2 minutes before he said, "Well, it's kind of like snow melting on a meadow." Upon seeing the foliage, one can easily see where this would come from with the few green streaks showing over the white of the leaves. This is why I gave it the English rendering of 'Meadow Snow.' This genus was formerly in the Camellia family Theaceae but has been reclassified into the family Pentaphylacaceae along with Cleyera and Ternstroemia. The undersides of it branches are literally lined with small whitish, bell-like flowers in spring. Some folks say they stink, but since I am not the best "smeller", I don't really care since the plants are so delightful. The last picture is the size of the plant that you will receive.
