Zhuzhou Fuchsia Chinese Fringe. This is by far the fastest growing of any of the cultivars of Loropetalum. We have seen 3 to 5 feet shoots many times. Since this is the city flower of Zhuzhou, China, it is used as street trees there. Most gardeners consider Loropetalums as shrubs, but left to their own devices, these plants can reach medium sized tree proportions. This selection is best used as a large hedge or screen or as a small tree, and it has also proven to be the most cold-hardy of all Loropetalums as well. Its flowers are a deeper fuchsia pink than most and it has a very upright growth habit. So if a tall hedge is what you want, this is the plant for you. Very disease and pest resistant as well as deer resistant.
