Catawba Purple Crepe Myrtle. The best deep purple Crepe Myrtle around, with a medium growth habit of 10-12 ft. It is very mildew resistant and produces one of the best brilliant orange-red fall colors of any Crepe Myrtle. This is another one of the great introductions which came out of the breeding program at the National Arboretum. If this plant never flowered, I would plant it for its fall color. Plant in full sun with good drainage for the best flower production. There are plants of this cultivar in a street planting in nearby Aiken, SC, and customers continually ask of the identity of this cultivar, which flowers with the most brilliant purple of any Crepe Myrtle.
