Florida Sunshine Small Anise Tree. This golden-leaf form of our native Anise Tree is an awesome sight. It grows equally well in shade to full sun, even though in the Deep South one may experience some "bleaching" in full sun.. But the more sun that it will tolerate, the more intense the bright golden leaves. With less direct sun, the color will be an intense chartreuse. This was a selected seedling found by Tony Avent in the fields of Superior Trees in Lee, FL. Its leaves have the same incredible sassafras root fragrance of the species. This plant is becoming a smashing hit. I know this species will grow in zone 6, but as far as this cultivar is concerned, we'll wait for more definitive information. The first two photos show the color of the foliage in full sun with the next photos showing the color in shade.
