Temple of Bloom Seven Sons Flower. We have been growing this little known species for a number of years. It is a small tree which flowers in September with panicles of small white flowers, which from a distance resembles Natchez crepe myrtle. These are quickly followed by fascinating cherry-red bracts which are super showy and give another degree of interest. Well, Proven Winners has introduced this selection, 'Temple of Bloom'® which is more compact than the species and flowers somewhat earlier and gets to a height of only ten or more feet. Another fascinating aspect of this plant is its exfoliating bark which falls off in narrow strips revealing a lighter bark underneath. This exfoliation starts occurring on very branches of 1/2 to 1" diameter.
