Harry Lauder's Walking Stick. Great winter interest plant with its contorted branch structure, this plant was found as a branch sport in England in 1863. It never ceases to attract attention. Most often this plant is grafted, hence one must take immediate action when a "straight" branch emerges from its base and remove it immediately as it can dominate the plant. But these plants are on their own roots, so one doesn't have the "suckering" problem. Its ultimate size is about 8-10' but it can get larger. Dirr said that he witnessed a 20' specimen in England, but this may be one of the oldest around of this selection, over 100 year. Sun or part shade.
