Evergreen Dogwood. I remember my first impression when I heard of an Evergreen Dogwood. "This is just too good to be true!" Well, I was wrong. After planting one almost 30 years ago, I have finally seen the reality of it. Even with our lowest temperature of 7°F, it has never had a leaf drop during the winter. Its flower is the typical Chinese Dogwood flower, but its bloom period is late May through early July. At its peak, the foliage will be completely covered with flowers, and then in the fall it is followed by the typical "strawberry-like" edible fruit of the species hanging from 3" long pedicels. This plant is happiest when sited in filtered sun or morning sun and afternoon shade. This species was formerly known as Cornus kousa angustata, but has now been given its own species status.
