Double Pink Flowering Almond. My first recollection of this old cultivar was in the middle of my grandmother's lawn growing around the ubiquitous bird bath. It is a small suckering shrub that struts its stuff for us in mid April where each stem is covered in double pink flowers. I have never seen the double flowering form set fruit, but some single flowering specimens occasionally will. This plant is not common in the trade because it is a popular hand-me-down plant. The foliage is a medium green, but nothing to write home about. It is easily grown in full sun to part shade in well drained soil. Its ultimate size will be from 3-5 ft. with an equal spread. It can propagated by dividing an old plant during the winter when dormant or it can be rooted using new spring growth in May or June under an intermittent mist system.
