Harlequin Japanese Cinnamon Tree. The Japanese Cinnamon is one of the more cold hardy species of this genus. This cultivar has pewter colored leaves with cream white margins. It will make a shrubby plant which is quite attractive, but it can eventually reach small tree proportions, if you or it live long enough. Flowers are not showy, but it will form black berries. In China it is used for medicinal purposes. I once considered this a slow grower, but have noticed flushes up to 18 inch on an established plant. Quite an eye-catcher and a real collector plant. Very rare. These plants that we offer are from rooted cuttings and are on their own roots, not grafted. When I first saw this plant in Japan, it was used as a sheared hedge in a garden, which was approximately 8 ft. high.
