Duet Beautyberry. This recent introduction from the National Arboretum has white berries and variegated leaves with white margins. It is really a showy plant and very vigorous. Even though this selection is a branch sport, it is extremely stable. In a block of over 1000 plants, I saw only one small branch with green leaves. Now if we can just find this same variegation on a plant with purple berries. This species is a Japanese native, so some years back I took rooted cuttings of this, among other selections, with me to Japan to give to Japanese nurserymen as gifts. Only a year or two later, I saw this selection all over Japan! It benefits by pruning back heavily in late winter to produce more succulent new growth. Also, berries are produced on current seasons wood.
