Longifolia Aucuba. 'Longifolia' as its name implies has one of the narrowest leaves of the genus with some rather pronounced "teeth" or serrations along the leaf margins. After researching this selection on the internet, I'm convinced that there must be several clones out there bearing this name. Probably seedlings grown from this plant will probably greatly resemble the parent. I received by start of this from Dr. J. C. Raulston of NCSU many years ago. It is a female selection, and will produces a plethora of large red berries if a male pollinator is present. Since the leaves are narrower than other cultivars, berries are usually more noticeable. As Aucubas age, the berries on the females become much more prominent as there is less and less growth produced after flowering. Remember, shade and good drainage is the best garden environment for all Aucubas.
