Painted Buckeye. Dr. Michael Dirr says, "Painted Buckeye has become a cherished horticultural friend since my arrival in Georgia." Reaching small tree proportions of up to 20 or more feet and producing an array of flower colors of greenish-yellow to yellow to pink to red, with some spikes having all the colors mixed together. This native should be used more than it is. Its seed are a deep mahogany brown. The seed for these plants were collected on the banks of the Savannah River, North Augusta, SC, just below the I-20 bridge. Zones 6-9.
