Due to recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Amethyst Falls Wisteria.  Bill Head of Head-Lee Nursery discovered this selection of our Southeast native in the wild in Oconee Co., SC, while hiking. One of the unique characteristics of this cultivar is that it will flower from its first year and thereafter; whereas, with many Asian selections, they may take 20 years or more to begin flowering. This native species leafs out and then flowers on top of its foliage in late April here, making it a later bloomer than the Asiatic species, thus it is almost immune to late frost damage. Another great attribute of this variety is that it will repeat its flowering several times during the summer, usually June and August for us. This plant is vigorous, but not as invasive as the Asiatic species. This is a wonderful subject to grow on trellises and arbors in sun to part shade.
