Mandarin Honeysuckle. This is a hybrid vining Honeysuckle. 'Mandarin' is a cross between a Chinese species, Lonicera tragophylla and a hybrid, L. brownie. It is truly spectacular with its almost 3" long Mandarin orange tubular flowers. The pics below speak for themselves. It is deciduous, unlike our native L. sempervirens. It is a typical twining honeysuckle which will put on its best show when grown in full sun. It is quite vigorous, easily growing 5-6' in a growing season, which makes it ideal for covering arbors and trellises. Its initial new foliage in the spring is an attractive bronze-purple.
