Color Wheel Stokes Aster. On this awesome native, although rare in the wild, this genus has produced a number of cultivars. With this selection, its flowers open almost pure white on a branched stem. As the days progress, the same bloom fades to lavender-pink, then to deeper lavender and finally to purple. The overall effect is as many as five different colors on the same plant. This is a persistent perennial which does well in the garden as well as a container where it will get to about 12-18". This species does well in full sun to part shade. Since it is a southeastern native, this species is also accustomed to great fluctuations in growing conditions from dry to wet and from cool to hot. We have found no pest problems with it. This species is also excellent for cut flowers as well.
