Reineckea. With liriope-like leaves and pink flowers, one will often confuse this plant with Liriope. Unfortunately the flower stalks don't show off their wares to great advantage because they stay slightly below the tops of the leaves. Jim Martin who was once the head gardener at Brookgreen Gardens in Georgetown, SC, mentioned that the garden staff had more comments from visitors on this particular plant than any others in their great collection. The first photo comes from there where it is planted under the humongous Live Oaks. The leaves are softer than Liriope which gives it a somewhat more delicate appearance. It will grow in dense shade to part sun and will tolerate most any soil type.
