Tachiba Koryu Tongue Fern. This selection of the evergreen tongue fern was bought at a small consignment nursery in Kawaguchi City, Japan, just outside of Tokyo. It has fascinating "rippled" narrow leaves which emerge from horizontal rhizomes which crawl across the surface of the soil thriving in complete shade to filtered sun. It seems to grow just as easily as any other tongue ferns making a majestic groundcover if grown in the landscape. It is hardy from zone 7-10 if grown outside, but it makes an excellent container plant as well if grown in a loose mix similar to orchid soil. In the wild, this genus grows over rocks where it gets regular water, so it is very shallow rooted.
