Due to recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Jinguji Red Stem Solomon's Seal. I found this selection in Japan, but Dan Hinkley of Heronswood Nursery fame introduced it to the U. S. in 2003. Its origin was the Jinguji Nursery in Japan. It is typical of the species with its leaves and flowers, but its stems are a bright pinkish-red and will reach 20" in height with white bell-like flowers which are later followed by large black berries. It is quite vigorous and will fill an area very quickly. In Japan I frequently see it used as a pot plant. As a matter of fact Todd Lasseigne and I bought a beautiful porcelain pot filled with it and split the tubers between us. One should grow in a shade environment like any other Solomon's Seal with good drainage. It makes a great combination with Hosta. These are extremely full containers.
