Due to recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

This fern was previously known as Colysis ellipticus f. crispa variegata but now has been changed to Leptochilus ellipticus 'Hakusainami'. So if you purchased this under its former name, this is the same plant. This unusual cold-hardy fern has finger-like protrusions from the end of its fronds, which are elaborately frilled and tipped with white. I found this little jewel at a small rare plant consignment nursery in Japan some years back. It should be grown similarly to the Tongue Ferns, Pyrrosia lingua. It works well in a very organic soil in the garden or as a container subject. Fascinating!
