Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Silver Comet Pampas Grass. This is by far the most outstanding variegated pampas grass anywhere. White stripes border the outside of all leaves ending in a purple sheath at the base. It gives the appearance of an evergreen Miscanthus. This is also the most dwarf of all pampas grasses that we grow, even small than 'Compacta.' The foliage reaches only 3 to 4 ft. and the plumes are only to 5 ft. The Pampas Grasses are all native to Argentina, and as amazing as it may seem, I have never seen this species self sow in the wild here in SC. For the most attractive growth, one should cut the old winter-burnt foliage and seed stalks back in late February, so that when the new growth emerges in the spring, it won't be mixed with last years aging leaves and bloom stalks. An added positive trait of this cultivar over the all-green forms is that it is not nearly so vigorous., making it much easier to contain.
