Hiryu Tongue Fern. This fascinating cultivar of the well-known Tongue Fern has extremely deeply cut leaves as one can see from the photos. The older the plant, the more pronounced are the leaf "serrations." It is hardy from zones 7-10 and performs best in a moist well drained soil. If one wishes to grow it as a container plant, orchid mix is an excellent potting medium. It spreads by stolons which run across the top of the soil or slightly underneath. It is extremely easy to grow. Being epiphytic in the wild, these ferns can be found growing over rocks or on tree trunks.
